Merge an SCP Upgrade the lab without starving merges

Facility upgrades are a listed feature. Spend after the merge loop works, not instead of it.

Facility Upgrades

The official Roblox description for SCP Merge tells you to upgrade your facility. That line is easy to skip while you mash SCP-999. It is also easy to overspend: a pretty room that leaves you without a matching third copy is a failed upgrade. This guide is the spend order for Merge an SCP’s lab, not a sealed upgrade tree. Merge Empire has not published room names, HP values, or a tech chart. We rank when to tap the upgrade buttons you actually see.

Parent context: Guides Hub. Income: How to Farm Cash. Combat: Boss Rounds. Copy math: merge planner.

What a facility upgrade is for

The experience is a free Simulation / Tycoon on an eight-player floor. Each player owns a lab slot. Upgrades sit on that slot. They are not a shared raid buff. Typical tycoon upgrades in this genre do one or more of:

  • Raise how much a floor orb is worth, or how often orbs spawn.
  • Unlock another pad, room, or conveyor so copies have somewhere to sit.
  • Make the next shop restock cheaper in time, not always in cash.
  • Look expensive without changing merge copy counts.

If a button does not tell you which of those it does, treat it as cosmetic until proven. Buy one, watch one orb loop, then decide. Do not chain five unknown buttons because the description said “upgrade your facility.”

Merge copy rules do not change because a wall got shinier. Early rungs still often want three matching copies; later rungs often want two. That stays on How to Merge SCPs.

Spend order that does not wipe the climb

Use this sequence after you can merge 999s without thinking. If you cannot, Getting Started first.

  1. Keep a matching set in the shop budget. If the next 999 (or the current lowest rung you still need) would go grey after the upgrade, skip the upgrade.
  2. Own a cheap SMG around the observed 5,000-cash tag before you decorate. A pretty lab that dies to the first siren is a wipe. See weapon ranking.
  3. Buy the upgrade that clearly prints cash or space. Income and pad space beat lighting. The cash farm page is the orb half of this decision.
  4. Then vanity rooms and morph-adjacent cosmetics. Morphs themselves are a different rack; Morphs and Costumes covers those.
  5. Never dump the wallet into upgrades the minute a shutdown ends. Run the patch notes checklist: confirm 999 is still the start unit, count merge copies, then spend.

A bulk shop buy around 100 auto-merges. That stack is usually a better click-saver than a mystery room if you are still under T5 (~54 base copies in the planner model).

Upgrades versus boss rounds

Containment rounds hit the shared floor. An upgrade that keeps you on your pad with a gun is useful. An upgrade that sends you walking across someone else’s copies to “see the new room” is how you scatter orbs and eat friendly fire. During the siren, ignore the upgrade UI. After the wave, scoop dropped cash, restock copies, then open the facility panel.

If you keep dying with a maxed-looking lab and no SMG, the lab was not the problem. Read Boss Rounds before another room purchase.

Upgrades versus chasing SCP-096

How to Get SCP-096 is a T8 cash wall (~432 base 999s in the mixed planner). Facility upgrades help only if they raise orb income or stop you from running out of pad space. They do not skip tiers. Do not buy rooms as a substitute for matching copies. If T8 is the goal this week, fund 999s first, upgrade second.

The same rule applies to the 154-owner Tier15 badge. Rooms will not mint it. Badges track merge rungs. The table is on the badges page.

What we will not invent

There is no public Trello. There is no named list of every generator. Shop labels change between shutdowns. This page will not print a fake “Level 4 Containment Wing = +12% orb value” row. If a live button states a bonus in plain language, believe the button. If it only shows a price, buy one copy of the upgrade and measure orbs for a few minutes.

Scripts that auto-buy upgrades exist in the same menus as auto-merge and infinite money. They are a ToS risk. See auto merge scripts and money farm scripts. A legal upgrade is a click you can explain.

A short lab-session script

  1. Join SCP Merge (place 70386498457443) and claim your slot.
  2. Merge until the current rung is stable.
  3. Vacuum orbs.
  4. If a cheap SMG is missing, buy it.
  5. Open facility upgrades. Buy at most one income or space upgrade.
  6. Watch one orb loop. If income did not move, do not buy the next room yet.
  7. When the alarm hits, close the panel and defend.
  8. After the wave, restock copies before another upgrade.

The mid-article clip is lab footage of SCP bodies on the floor, not a developer upgrade trailer. Use it to remember the space you are spending on. Use the shop to remember the price.

Upgrade the facility so the merge loop gets easier. If the loop got harder after the purchase, you bought a decoration. Sell the idea of it in your head, buy another 999, and try the next button only when the pad is already winning.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Merge an SCP questions.

Should I upgrade the facility before I buy SCP-999 copies?

No. Keep a matching set affordable. Upgrades come after the merge loop on Getting Started and How to Merge SCPs is working.

Do facility upgrades change how many copies a merge needs?

Not in any published rule. Early rungs often need three copies, later rungs often two. Count the pads. The merge planner is the copy worksheet.

Is there an official upgrade tree?

No. Merge Empire lists "upgrade your facility" without a Trello. Buy one button, measure orbs, then decide. After shutdowns, use patch notes.

Should I upgrade or buy the SMG first?

Buy the cheap SMG first if a siren is due. A room will not shoot. Rank guns on weapon ranking and fight notes on Boss Rounds.

Will upgrades get me SCP-096 faster?

Only if they raise cash or pad space. They do not skip Tier 8. The merge route is on How to Get SCP-096.
